Art Feast, one of the biggest and yearly events at our school, recently. With the big theme being “secret garden”, many people had varying inspiration for their outfits. From a shaggy ink cap mushroom, to a flower goddess, sometimes these art works of an outfit end up having a deeper story than ever expected.
In CAPA, students are often seen as just their major, with one of the few question people will ask is “What’s your major?” and unless you’re their friend, you’ll most likely do the same thing. Art Feast gives a chance for you to see beyond that, as many students are putting the time into creating their outfits or planning an outfit that symbolizes something. Nayanna, for example, wanted to represent body positivity.

I asked her about the inspiration for her outfit, and she replies with, “So, uhm, because I struggled with like, my weight, and, like, my body, for like years, I used to get fat shamed, bullied, and everything. So, like, now, I have more confidence.” Showing off their confidence and how they won this fight against societies shame, they wore a beautiful dress. They continue to tell me that this was one of the biggest steps for them, because they “used to be scared to wear crop tops, shorts, and dress.” They took the chance laying in front of them and looked astonishing.

If I never asked, I would’ve never known about the amazing story behind this outfit, and I’m sure many people wouldn’t have given it a second thought, but this is one of the big things about this event. Art Feast gave them a time to display their creativity, but it wasn’t just them. Almost everyone who went there had a chance to ignore their major and dress in a way they possibly wouldn’t have.
