As the sun shines brighter every day and summer comes along, so do ripe fruits across the globe. From North America to Africa, there are delicious fruits that taste best during the hot months of summer. The fruits that I will be sharing are only best during the months of summer, depending on the region, so take note and make sure to try some. The Caribbean’s hottest months are from June to November, but the times when the fruits are the ripest are July through December. Some of the most famous summer fruits there are sea grapes, guinep, cherimoya, guava, pineapple, and tamarind. Sea grapes are exactly what they sound like, tiny grape-like fruit vines that are in the ocean. They have plenty of fiber and have a salty water taste. Guinep (Gin-Nep) is a fruit that can be seen in many places, but Jamaica is the main place. They are referred to as “spanish limes” and they are an orange fruit covered with a green shell. Pineapple and Guava are extremely popular in the U.S. but they are said to be best in their origin countries. Cherimoya (Cheh-ruh-moy-uh) is also known as a custard apple. It is said to have a taste like bananas and pineapple. Tamarind is a fruit that hangs off a tree and is a brown shade. Tamarind has been compared to lemon juice due to its sour taste. A lot of African fruits are something we eat a lot in the U.S. Some of the most popular ones are bananas, apples, papayas, mangoes, mulberries, and more. Mulberries look very similar to black berries. They are a great choice for pies and cobblers because they have a perfect sweet taste.
