Summer Fun For Students
As a sophomore who is obsessed with staying productive all summer, I am always on the lookout for fun and affordable activities that I can do during the long break. I believe that every student deserves the chance to enjoy these hobbies too. Summer is a great time to do low-cost fun things, and hopefully I can give you some ideas! Here are five interesting summer activities to make the most of your break!
Volunteering!
Give back to the community by volunteering at a local organization or charity. Not only will you be helping others, but you’ll also feel good about yourself and gain valuable experiences. There are many opportunities available, such as helping at a food bank or animal shelter. Some organizations that offer services to help end hunger are Philabundance and Caring for Friends which is a youth organization.

Join a Summer Program!
Many high schools and colleges offer summer programs that are available to all students. Some benefits of these programs are getting hands-on experience, getting to meet new people, and some programs even offer to pay for your attendance!
Get a Job!
Getting a summer job, whether it’s seasonal or permanent, is a fun learning experience for students that teaches you things such as punctuality, managing finances, and it also gives you the opportunity to explore different job environments! The thought of working a job that adults complain about can seem overwhelming, but there are jobs such as working at an amusement park or a bookstore that you might enjoy. As the list goes on, you are bound to find something that suits your preferences and personality!
Exercise!
Exercising is a wonderful way to get out more and spend time with loved ones. By going out for a walk, you can improve your mental health and get in touch with nature. Some other exercising opportunities are joining a gym. Gyms like Planet Fitness offer an all summer free membership for all locations for students ranging from ages 14-19 years old!
DIY Crafting!
DIY Crafts have been the go to for boredom busters. Get creative and make some projects! You can make bracelets, earrings, or even thrift flip clothing. If you feel stuck, go to Pinterest or YouTube for inspiration! For a cheap alternative, an eco-friendly tip can be recycling items in your home to add to your materials in your crafts.
Summer is seen as a time to relax, but that doesn’t mean you have to be bored. Hopefully you can consider all of these options when deciding what you will pursue this summer!
